Is it that rolls require no cutting thus has no waste? In this case, isn’t it cheaper than sheets? The answer is no, reasons as follow:

1.The packed rolls have paper tubes, which is not cheap.

2.There might be defects during production such as scratches and factory has to cut off the whole area where defects appear. During sheets production, the cut area can be still cut into sheets except those defects. 

Therefore, rolls have higher cost than sheets.

1. See whether the paper pretreatment is good or not. Bad pretreated abrasive paper has black dots on the back side when backlighted. This kind of abrasive paper will be brittle and has poor waterproofness.

2. See whether the grain side is smooth or not and with too much bond or not.

If the grain side is with too much bond, it feels not sharp since the bond has fully covered the grains. And also the grain side will be shiny when it is with too much bond.

3.See whether there are coarse particles or abnormal bulges on the grain side. These will damage the workpieces during sanding.

Factory production line is about 100m long and it takes about 30 min to produce 1000m. If the quantity is too small, the space time among machine start up, normal running and stop working is not enough, which will affect the quality stability. Therefore, we require MOQ for 1000m/grit for one item. And one square meter abrasive paper can be cut into about 15.6 sheets (9” x 11”). This is why we require at least 15,000 sheets/grit.

After jumbo roll produced, there will be 10cm blank on both sides for the width. For example, a roll with 1400mm width minus 10cm blank for both sides and can actually get 1380mm width. You only need to pay the actual use area width of 1380mm.

3. Your whole set of print design including abrasive paper backing, pack and box.

In abrasive paper, for normal Alox, there are brown alumina, white alumina and some pink fused alumina, which is normally used in abrasive cloth. Special treated Alox is processed from normal Alox. After calcinations or iridium plating, the grain cracks can be fixed and thus the grains become tougher and have better cut rate and longer life time.
